About Me

IMG_8033.jpg

My fitness journey began in 2006 after moving to a new town, having my second child and falling into deep postpartum depression. My husband recommended we join a gym in order to get me out of the house, hoping I would meet friends and the exercise would also help my postpartum.

Going to the gym in the beginning intimidated me. I had no idea how to use the fitness equipment and was too embarrassed to ask. The only machines I did know how to use were the treadmill and elliptical, which I found long and boring but got me moving nonetheless. A friend recommended that I try the fitness
classes, so after watching Zumba® infomercials on TV, I found a class at the gym and decided to give it a try.

Making that step changed my life and took me into my first steps of a healthier living. I fell in love with the class and could not wait until the next one. I loved the way I felt afterwards and found myself losing the baby weight, feeling better about myself physically, mentally and emotionally, making new friends and looking forward to every chance I could go to the gym.

Five years after joining the gym I decided to become a group fitness instructor receiving my certification through AFAA. This gave me the opportunity to teach several formats ranging from Zumba®, SilverSneakers®,TRX®, Yoga, Bootcamp, HIIT and Pilates but I still had a desire to know more about my body and help my participants do the same. After much thought and prayer, I decided to pursue my personal training certification and in 2017 received my personal trainer certification through NASM.

Though it was a hard decision, I decided to leave my job at the gym after 7 years and open my own faith based fitness studio, thus the beginning of FHL Fitness. FHL represents Faith, Hope and Love which is what I wish to share with others as we workout, especially women who may be in the same place I was back in 2006. I thank God every day for the lives He brings and has brought into
my life through my fitness journey and my business. My story is why I do what I do and love it!
